Going off to Pride Fest Chicago

Even though I've been thinking of making this blog more art centered, that has not happened. One reason or another (or excuses if you will) then to veer off into different topics. This afternoon, I hope to be around some creative people when visiting Pride Fest in Chicago for the first time. It is no wonder that artist and more importantly, people with personality are members of the LGBT community. I think they are really out of the box people.

It is also a sunny day, one of the last few this week. Even though I should be working on the apartment, the lure of the sunny outdoors keeps calling. And who wants to be cooped up in a dim apartment to sleep off last night's excursions? With a mug of coffee. I'll get my behind in gear, get dress and be off to the Metra station for an afternoon of exposure.

Maybe pictures to follow.

Took a stroll down My |___| lane

I know this is supposed to be an art blog and believe me, it will be. Ideas have been circling around my head like planes waiting to land at Midway or O'hare. *sigh* Ideas for drawing hands and feet and today, torsos. But it will not be reality until drawn on paper. Plus, I really should be going to the Jewels to pick up something to eat. Had thoughts about going to the Apple users group tonight, but from last weekend's funfilled/sleepless nights in the city, will need to rest.

A couple of days ago, on a lark, went over to the My |___| for nostalgia's sake. Had trouble logging on because the password I thought it was, was not. After expending some effort, I was able to log on today.

Looks like Aaaaron updated his status there. Yay. Everybody else has not visited since late 2009. I visited friends like Boo Boo Kitty Fuck and saw she had uploaded instalment 23 of "The Bartender." Boo Boo's story of a woman and her ex-boyfriend from hell. Someday, I'd like to approach her about doing a graphic novel of her story.

I looked up LindaLoca, who got me interested in the Burning Man community here in Chicago. Looked at pictures of her at Santa Kong 2009. Looks like she had a good time. In fact, going through her pictures as well as other's had an eerie feeling of thumbing through someone's old photo album. The photo albums people keep in a box and put in storage, then when said storage place is emptied because someone didn't pay their rent, you thumb through images of other people's memories.

I made a final stop, for the day, at H Who Is Just Hiding Out. I read the old blogs and looked through her pictures too. She took lots of webcam pictures showing a wide range of moods. I think she is beautiful, even when she is feeling sad. I think she will be a drawing for a later date.

I am amazed that most of my top 26 or so still have their profiles up. Have they forgotten to delete them? Such orphans, but I will be visiting them soon. Those pictures on the friends list reminded me of an old high school yearbook.

Drawing hands and feet...

It as occurred to me that my blog here, the frustrated artist, needs more art related musings. In the spirit of this theme, I will talk about how difficult it is to draw hands and feet... realistically and provide some demonstrations. A sort of "hand and foot" clinic.

You few blog followers, if ever a chance to see a drawing or painting in which the human form is depicted as the subject, pay attention to the way the hands and or feet (if bare) had been rendered. Does it look convincing or maybe just slap-dashed over in the hopes that you the viewer would not notice. I notice and wonder why is it so difficult for some people to draw or paint these features convincingly. A portrait for instance can have a wonderfully rendered face, but if the hands are off, it is something that dulls the shine off of it. Perhaps I am a bit too critical.

Far be it for me to criticize, because it is hard for me to draw hands and feet. It is a down right struggle to do so. I feel that just like the face, hands and feet can be expressive and add that oompf to a well drafted figure, especially if it is of dancers.

In the next few blogs, I will attempt to de-construct hands and feet by drawing examples and posting them. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get images into this blog. :-)

Rolling my eyes about this scandal at Northwestern

Tonight, while I was out in the city and having a little warm me up time at a nearby Starbucks and waiting for my literary reading event, there was a stack of Redeye nearby my seat. The big story was about a Northwestern University professor who taught human sexuality having a live sex toy demonstration at an auditorium last week for his class.

The uproar about this reminded me how uptight this country is when it comes to sexuality. There are two things people here seldom discuss, sex and death. Of the two, sex seems to be more taboo. We are also a violent nation, which make it understandable that we tolerate violence more than sex.

Violence is usually done on the outside of the body, where as sex involves some kind of penetration. That must unsettle a lot of people and thus one reason why the topic is not discussed.

There should be worse things that is world more upsetting than this.

My first blog... in a long long time

After giving much though. Okay not that much thought, I decided to start putting down my brain thoughts onto bits and bites again. I've been away long enough to miss doing it, but not have the motivation to do it until now.

 That's all. For now.
